Rupert integrates to your BI tools and DWH so you could utilize previously created assets to create data triggered alerts and monitor your data.

We currently support connections to:

BI tools - Looker, Tableau

In this article, we are going to cover the following topics

Click the Manage Sources tab located on the bottom of the left sidebar or the "Handle sources" quick action in the Dashboard.

ℹ️ If your organization requires a system admin to perform the connection to the data source, you can grand them access in the "Users" tab. The tab can be accessed from the left sidebar or the quick actions menu in the Dashboard ("Handle Users")

Under “New Source”, choose the source you wish to connect

Connect a BI tool source

Connect your tool to make the most out of the assets you and your colleagues created.

Once connected, Rupert will build your data catalog for you and:

  • Index your (e.g., dashboards, reports, Looks, etc.) and their metadata

  • Help you get started by recommending assets to base your alerts on

  • Perform an automatic hourly sync to make sure the assets presented in the Desk will always be true to the latest updates you made in the source BI tool

  • Inherit user permissions from your source - which means users will only see in the Assets tab the assets they have permissions to view in the source

Connect a new source

  1. Click the Manage Sources tab

  2. Under “New Source”, choose your BI tool

  3. Paste-in any URL from your BI tool as long as you follow the following restrictions:

  4. Name the source
Important: this source name will be used by your team to filter assets and verify them. With that, please make sure that the name is short, but also communicates what is the source and what it includes

  5. Add credentials and click CONNECT.
Important: make sure the credentials you use have access/permission to view all assets

  6. Now you can see all your assets under the “Assets” tab

Connect a DWH source

Once you create a connection to your DWH:

  • Rupert will import queries from the history and auto-name them according to the SQL. You can later on edit the assets, their auto-generated names and descriptions

  • You’ll be able to create and save new SQL assets in the "Assets" tab

  • You’ll be able to run queries against your DWH using Rupert’s IDE

Manage an existing source connection details

  • Open the Manage Sources screen

  • Head over to the "Existing Source" section

  • Locate the source connection you wish to edit, and click the edit button

Important: This process should be done by a Manager user or the user who initially created the source connection to Rupert. If you enter the wrong credentials, Rupert will no longer be able to automatically sync your BI assets and Desk users won't be able to run SQL queries (for DWH connections)

Detach a BI source

If for any reason you need to delete all assets and stop the sync to a specific BI source, you can easily detach it by clicking the Detach button.
